Phonak wireless earphone is already an essential tool for TV anchormen and for actors who need prompter's assistance.
In order to diversify, the Swiss company Phonak, leader for hearing systems and in-ear radio systems, has started producing an ear-worn microphone called proVoco.
ProVoco is an almost invisible mic, very light, on a form-memory deformable boom. Set around the ear, with a loop, it is unobtrusive, stays at all times in place, distracts neither user nor viewer. Even vigorous movement will not dislodge it.
Though Phonak Cycle Team disbanded last year because of doping suspicions, alleged using of testosterone, Phonak company is nonetheless present on 2007 Tour de France.
As it happens, DC Audiovisuel have equipped several TV reporters with proVoco ear-worn mic, together with a mini wireless Sennheiser SK 5212 transmitter. So, there is almost no off sounds nor sound level drop: speaker can be understood even in noisy surroundings.
ProVoco is not very wind sensitive, but it is necessary, in case of motor bike use, to put a Cat Windscreen on it.
This mic seems to be very successful with the sport world, specially with referees. Rugby World Cup 2007, coming next september, will certainly see many of it.
